Dagshai

Set amidst holly forests in the Shivalik foothills, Dagshai is a dreamy hill town, at an altitude of 6000 ft above the sea level. It is one of the oldest British cantonments, 19 km from Kasauli. Built like a fortress, there is a large jail in Dagshai, the foundation of which was laid in 1846. Here freedom fighters, rebels and lawbreakers were subjected to rigorous imprisonment. There are 50 prison cells standing to this day as a reminder of the old British days.

At the top of the hill, there is a huge play field and an Army Public School. The magnificent buildings found in the school campus were built in 1876 and have glorious stories associated with them. Famous for its scenic beauty, Dagshai boasts cobblestone streets, old mansions and some of the best picnic spots under the shades of oak trees.

Dagshai is around 50 km from Chandigarh on the Kalka – Shimla Highway (NH 22). Dharmpur (5 km) is the nearest railway station. Salon, the district headquarters, is 16 km away.
