Chandra River, a tributary of the Chenab, originates from the main Himalayan range in the Lahaul-Spiti District. The river then flows in a south-easterly direction along the base of the range and then turns a whole 180 degree to flow in a south-westerly course in
Spiti valley. This region lies in the rain shadow region of the
Pir Panjal range, of the greater Himalayas, which is also called as cold desert. The main human settlement along the river is Koksar.
