Shaktipitha

Shaktipitha, a Hindu holy place, is the seat of the power of a goddess. Goddess Sati (Shakti), the embodiment of feminine power has several temples in North India, especially in the alpine regions of Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttaranchal, which are considered Shaktipithas, where parts of Sati's corpse fell, while she was carried away by an irate Shiva after her self-immolation. Shaktipithas of Durga are also much revered.
