Patola

Patola from Patan in north Gujarat is a fabric mainly used in women’s wear. This unique fabric of the state is decorated with colourful geometrical patterns. Its tie and weave method depends on the geometry of the design. Both sides of this fabric have equal intensity of color with no reverse side. Traditionally pure silk and natural dyes were used. Hand-operated harness looms are used to weave the patolas. The looms are made out of rosewood and bamboo strips. The Patola sarees are quite famous throughout the country.
