Bhavnath Fair

Bhavnath Fair is a major festival celebrated at the Bhavnath Mahadev Temple, in Junagadh, Gujarat. It is a five day fair which starts on the annual Mahashivaratri day.

The maha puja of Lord Shiva takes place in the temple at midnight. When the puja starts, naga bavas (naked sages) living nearby moves towards the fair seated on the elephants, holding flags and blowing conch shells. A popular belie among the devotees is that Lord Shiva himself visits the shrine on this auspicious occasion.

During the fair visitors are served free meals by the organizers.

Bhavnath Fair is a fine opportunity to hear local folk music and see folk dances.
