Amreli, the district headquarters of the
Amreli District, lies on the Kathiawar Peninsula. The town is about 200 km southwest of
Ahmedabad.
It is believed that during the 5th and 6th century, Amreli existed by the name Anumanji. Mainly a commercial centre, Amreli is rich in industries and indulge in the manufacture of khadi (coarse cotton cloth), tanning, silver working, and cotton ginning.
Gir Lion Sanctuary, Bhurakhiya Hanuman Mandir, Khodiyar Mandir, and
Pipavav Port are the major tourist attractions.
Amreli Railway Station is a major railhead of Gujarat.
