P Sachidanandan, who writes under the assumed name of Anand, is a well known novelist. He was born in 1936 at
Irinjalakuda. His novels Alkoottam, Govarthante Yatrakal, Utharayanam, and Abhayaarthikal are great contributions to Malayalam literature. His belief that a true creative literary work is not for cornering awards but for social upliftment, made him reject awards such as the Yashpal award and Kerala Sahithya Academy award. Poojyam, published in 1960, was his first short story.
