Tibetan Monastery

A well known Tibetan Monastery is located near the famous Mahabodhi temple at Bodhgaya, Bihar, adjacent to Mahabodhi Society of India. It has a huge collection of Tibetan scriptures, tangkhas (Tibetan Buddhist scroll paintings) and other religious objects. The figure of the Maitreya Buddha (future Buddha) is housed at the sanctum's first floor and the dharmachakra (wheel of law) is installed in the ground floor of the monastery. The dharmachakra is beautifully painted, having over 20 tones weight. It is believed that if any one revolves the dharmachakra three times before prayer, his or her sin will be forgiven. In addition, the monastery complex has a central prayer hall and residential buildings. There are two more Tibetan monasteries in Bodhgaya. Nearest airport is the Gaya Airport. The main bus stop in Bodhgaya is near Sujata Bridge on the Phalgu River on the northeastern edge of the town. Gaya Railway station around 12 km away.
