Bhagalpur, the district administrative headquarters of Bhagalpur District, is located in Bihar and is 230 km east of Patna. It is situated on the banks of the Ganges.
This fertile region produces grain, rice, oilseeds, jute and sugarcane. Bhagalpur is famous for the production of coarse-silk goods. Bhagalpur University, sericulture institute, agricultural-research station are located here. The remains of Buddhist monasteries, some ancient cave sculptures and Bhagalpur Pillar are the archeological interests.
