Naharkatia




Naharkatia is an oil producing city near Digboi where the first oil discovery of independent India was made. It is bounded by Tinkhang in the west, Duliagaon in the north, Jaipur in the east and Namrup in the south. The Naharkatia oilfield derives petroleum from the Barail sandstone. Besides oil, this area also contains natural gas.

Naharkatia is the nearest railway station. Namrup and Digboi are 10 and 32 km respectively from Naharkatia.
