West Kameng District



West Kameng District lies in the western part of Arunachal Pradesh, covering an area of 7,422 sq km. It has a population of 74,595. West Kameng District derives its name from the river Kameng. Snowfall occurs from mid-November to February.

Bugun, Hrusso, Monpa, Sajolang and Sherdukpen are the major tribes. The important festivals are Lossar, Neichidow and Chindang. The nearest airport and railway station are at Salonibari and Bhalukpong respectively. The main rivers are the Kameng, Tenga, Bichom, Gacham, Norgum, Dirang Chu and Jamiri. Bhalukpong, Lagela Gompa at Morshing, Rupa Caves, Shergaon, Shangti and the hot spring at Dirang are the main tourist destinations. Bomdila is the administrative center of West Kameng District.
