Maridamma festival is celebrated for 31 days from Amavasya in the month of Jyeshtha (May and June) to the Amavasya in the month of Ashadha (June and July). The festival is associated with Maridamma Temple.
Maridamma Temple is located in Peddapuram taluk of East Godavari District. Kolatam is held during the festival. A fair is held where in wide varieties of household articles are sold. Besides, cycle races, cattle shows, parrot circuses and agricultural exhibitions are also held. Kumbham (pot) is taken in decorated vessels and kept in open carts, which are taken in procession to the temple. Music and dance accompany the procession and afterward food is distributed as
prasad.
