Bonalu Festival




Bonalu is a folk festival, celebrated in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. It is a festival dedicated to Goddess Kali, which is celebrated during the month of 'Ashada' (July). During this festival, the `Ghatams' or decorated pots are filled with flowers and the colorfully dressed female dancers carry the pots in a procession. The female dancers are accompanied by men who play drums. Besides, the women also carry cooked rice in highly polished brass vessels or in clay pots decorated with neem leaves.
